Kolkata, Nov 25 (UNI) With a view to imparting IT education and research facilities of global standards, Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology is coming up at Haringhata in West Bengal in line with a similar institute set up by the Ambani Group at Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

A Bill in this regard was passed in the State Assembly today.

He said the Institute would function as a non-affiliating University and would not have any grant-in-aid or financial assistance from the Centre, the state government, UGC or any other institutions.

He informed that five per cent of the seats would be kept reserved in the Institute for poor and meritorious students to enable them to study in the institution without paying tution fees and other charges subject to their qualifying for admission through All India Engineering Entrance Examination.

''There has been a phenomenal growth in information and communication technology in India over the past few years and the setting up of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology in West Bengal will escalate the trend," Mr Raychoudhuri observed.
