Brahmapura, 8 other Akalis discharged in case of violence
Rupnagar, Nov 25 (UNI) Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Navjot Sohal today discharged Punjab Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Ranjit Singh Brahampura and eight other Akali leaders from a case registered against them in 2003.
The case was registered after Brahampura and his Akali associates indulged in violence at Rupnagar on December 1, 2003 during the court appearance of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a disproportionate assets case against him.
Besides Brahmpura the court also discharged Youth Akali Dal president Kiranbir Singh Kang, Rajbir Singh Padiala, Vir Singh Lopoke, Jatinder Singh Randhawa, Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa, Dyal Singh, Jatinder Singh Bajwa and Sikh Students Federation (Grewal) president Gurcharan Singh Grewal from the case.
It may be mentioned that the prosecution had moved an application in the court under Section 320 of CrPC court seeking withdrawal of case against the accused. The court accepted the plea and ordered them to be discharged from the case.
The local police had registered a case under Sections 307, 332, 353, 356, 186, 506, 188, 148, 149 of the IPC against the Akali leaders for indulging in violence.
However, the accused had filed revision petition against the case and the then Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) Sukhdev Singh had ordered the dropping of Section 307 of the IPC from the case in the year 2005.
