Srinagar, Nov 24 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) today caught red-handed Ghulam Mohiudin Ganie, Accounts Assistant and Asaddulah Kuchay, Village Level Worker (VLW) in a bribe case here.
The officials were caught demanding and accepting Rs 1000 from the office of Block Development Officer (BDO), Badgam.
A spokesman of the VO said a complaint was received from one Mohammad Sultan Mir alleging that the officials were demanding bribe for release of cash assistance under Indira Avas Yojana Scheme (IAY).
He said in the complaint that he has been sanctioned cash assistance under IAY but the Accounts Assistant and VLW were demanding illegal gratification of Rs 2000 for release of cash assistance.
The spokesman said Vigilance laid a successful trap in BDO office Budgam during which the accused officials were caught red handed while accepting Rs 1000 as bribe from complainant.
The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses.
During the personal search of Accounts Assistant a number of signed cheques of cash assistance to various individuals were also recovered.
Hand wash of both the accused tested positive. Both have been arrested for further investigation.
