Two arrested for distributing cash to refugee voters
Agartala, Nov 24 (UNI) Altogether two supporters of Independent Candidates of Damparangpui in Western Mizoram were arrested for allegedly distributing cash among Reang refugees living in different camps of North Tripura.
Police identified the accused as Lalkhai Changa and Mumki and recovered Rs five lakh from their possession. The duo were sent to jail today.
Acting on a tip off, police conducted search in the camp last morning and found them motivating the voters by distributing cash in favour of Vonga Mizo, an independent candidates from Damparangpui reserve forest area.
The duo have admitted their crime, police said adding there were reports that different political parties had been trying to motivate the voters by various illegal means.
Meanwhile, addressing a rally in the refugee camps yesterday senior Congress leader and Union Minister B K Handik has assured to send 35000 Reang refugees to Mizoram, if Congress comes in power in the next election.
He lashed out Zoramthanga led MNF government for rampant corruption and under development and said that the ruling government in the state had made injustice with Reang refuges.
