Bangalore, Nov 24 (UNI) Indian vice-captain Virender Sehwag today praised the seamers Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel for their effective bowling to help india win the fourth ODI by 19 runs under Duckworth/Lewis method and wrap-up the series against England 4-0 here.
''Their bowling in the second over of play (opted by the England batsmen) was crucial. I think this turned the match in our favour,'' he told mediapersons last night after the match.
He said Zaheer had been very consistent during the recent wins while Ishant and Munaf bowled well in the one-day series.
Last night, Sehwag scored his second successive half century to help India post a challenging total of 166 for five in their 22 overs. The dashing opener struck 69 runs off 57 balls.
However, England, which was given a revised total of 198 from 22 overs, did give a good fight to the Indians but the hosts restricted them to 178 for eight.
Clarifying on his attacking self from the first ball Sehwag said there was no such plans but it came naturally to him.
''I was looking for gaps between the fielders there was quite a few of them.
''I think the two stoppages due to rain helped us somewhat though we did not have any plans for that. We were confident that if the Duckworth/Lewis method came into the picture we would have an advantage as we had scored around 106 runs for the loss of one wicket before the second interruption,'' he conceded.
He said opening the Indian innings with Sachin was indeed a privelege. Options of having three openers in a eleven was an advantage, he felt.
Sehwag said the numberless jersey was the result of astrologers confusing him about the numbers. Hence he decided to use a blank one.
''I don't believe in astrology but my family members do. Too many people used to call up and pester me and my family to use different numbers.
''I was so fed up that I decided not to take any of their advices as we play Test matches without numbers and hence I don't use any number on my T-shirt,'' he clarified.
