PM to lay foundation stone for IPTB
Tirupati, Nov 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation stone for the Integrated Passenger Terminal Building (IPTB) at Tirupati airport near here in December, Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan said today.
Addressing a press conference, he said in order to meet the anticipated increase in tourist and pilgrimage traffic, the existing infrastructure at the airport would be improved by increasing length of the runway and providing other facilities, for which Airports Authority of India (AAI) will spend around Rs 120 crore in the first phase.
The AAI has agreed to operate Four International flights from New York, London, Dubai and Singapore to Tirupati International Airport, he said.
To develop the airport into an international one, the AAI has already requested the Andhra Pradesh government to allot 736 acres of additional land at Tirupati airport free of cost to undertake developmental works.
The state government is making efforts to acquire additional land requested by the AAI, he said.
TATA is also contemplating to construct a five star hotel.
The international tourism agency will also start operatations in the temple town, he added.
