Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 (UNI) Riding on a fine unbeaten century by Prabhanjan Mallick, Orissa earned a mammoth first innings lead of 292 runs over Punjab on the second day of the Ranji Elite Group A match at the Railway stadium here today.
Punjab was 59 for one when stumps were drawn.
Prabhanjan, who returned to the team after being left out for the first two matches, stamped his authority by hitting eleven boundaries in his century.
He was ably supported by Haladhar Das, who scored 80 runs.
Resuming their overnight score of 148 for 5 with Prabhanjan and P Jayachandra at the crease, Orissa lost Jayachandra early.
This brought in Haladhar Das to the crease and both Prabhanjan and Haladhar scored freely in their 143-run partnership.
Punjab bowlers failed to make any breakthrough as Orissa amassed 352 in their first innings.
For Punjab, Gagandeep Singh took maximum four wickets, conceding 45 runs followed by Sabarjeet Singh, who claimed three wickets for 102 runs.
Faced with an uphill task, Punjab openers started their second innings by losing opener Sunny Sohal for two. However, Karan Goel and Ravinder Singh remained not out with 17 and 35 runs respectively.
