Bangalore, Nov 24 (UNI) The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), India's premier economic research institution, specialising in policy research and surveys will submit a report on the contribution made by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), a wing of the Union Defence Ministry, (DRDO) to the Indian economy.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Third National Conference on Quality and Reliability in Aerospace Technologies organised by Society for Aerospace Quality and Reliability here today, Dr Prahlada, Distinguished Scientist and Chief Controller R&D(SI) DRDO, said NCEAR had conducted a survey on the activities of DRDO and its impact on Indian Economy.
He said the report would be submitted to Union Defence Minister A K Antony, during the three-day International Conference on Co-operation in Defence Research scheduled to be held in New Delhi from December 3,2008.
He said NCAER, among the premier economic research institutions also conducted a survey on DRDO, which is working on a mission to make India prosperous by establishing world-class science and technology base and provide defence services an edge by equipping them with Internationally competitive systems and solutions.
He said DRDO in its endeavour to fulfill its mandate has received thousands of crores of funds from the Ministry of Defence and in its own way also contributed to the might of the Indian economy.
For the first time substantive and analytical report on DRDO's contribution to Indian economy was being presented to the Union Ministry of Defence, he said.
Replying to questions Dr Prahlada said for 2008-09, DRDO was granted a fund of over Rs 5000 crore from the Union Defence Ministry, which is equivalent to previous year's financial assistance.
