Hyderabad, Nov 24 (UNI) In a significant political development, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) tonight announced electoral understanding between the two parties to defeat the ruling Congress and keep at bay the BJP in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.

Addressing a joint press conference at the CPI state headquarters here, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu and CPI State Secretary K Narayana said both the parties would work together to fight against the alleged ''anti-people'' policies of the ruling Congress and bring down the ''corrupt'' Congress government.

While welcoming the CPI's decision to work together with the TDP and the CPI(M), Mr Naidu left to discretion of the CPI its decision to have truck with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

Mr Narayana clarified that ''we have in principle decided to work together. No decision has been taken on seat sharing.'' Earlier, the CPI adopted a resolution at its three-day state council meeting to maintain Left unity and forge a formidable alliance with the TDP and also the TRS to trounce the ruling Congress and keep the BJP out of power.
