6 killed, 34 injured in bus accident
Pune, Nov 24 (UNI) Six people were killed on the spot and 34 others injured, five of them seriously, when a crowded bus toppled into a canal at Indori Phata near Akole Taluka in Ahmednagar, around 150 KM from here.
The accident occurred last night when the private bus, carrying around 60 people (all residents of Ghatkopar and Vikroli in Mumbai), on their way to attend a marriage ceremony, dashed against the railing of the bridge over the canal and plunged.
Though the bridegroom Sameer escaped with minor injuries, his grandmother, uncle and aunt were killed in the mishap. The deceased have been identified as the Fatimabai Mohammed Pathan (75), Farida Pathan (33), Suleman Mohammed Pathan (40), Abbas Sayyad (47), Nagma Anwar Sheikh (17) and Hasan Adam (22).
The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in the district and Nashik, police said.
The bus driver Nirad Naresh Das (22) has been arrested, police added.
