NPP candidate escape bid on life during polling in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 23 (UNI) A National Panthers Party (NPP) candiate today survived a close shave, when militants hurled a hand grenade towards his house at Arhama in Ganderbal, where polling was in progress today.

A police spokesman said militant hurled a grenade towards the house of Abdul Rashid Ganai, contesting from Kangan assembly segment on NPP ticket.

He said the grenade exploded near the intended target without causing any harm.

Later, security in the area was further tightened.

Anti-poll demonstrators at main Ganderbal pelted stones near two polling booths set up near the office of District Electoral Officer (DEO). However, no one was injured and they were chased away by the security forces.

Situation elsewhere in all the six constituencies where polling was held today remained by and large peaceful.
