Mayawati demands full statehood for Delhi
New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Sounding the battle horn for the Delhi Assembly elections, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati today poured vitriol on the BJP and the Congress for being the benefactors of capitalists and demanded full statehood for the national capital.
Addressing a rally at Trilokpuri in east Delhi here this afternoon, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister called upon the electorate of Delhi to give a resounding defeat to both the BJP and the Congress in November 29 polls, accusing them of furthering the interest of the rich while at the same time riding roughshod over the feelings of the neglected sections of society.
Ms Mayawati urged the voters to facilitate the maiden entry of BSP into the Delhi Assembly by giving overwhelming support to all its 70 candidates in the fray.
Last year, the BSP netted 17 out of 272 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections.
Ms Mayawati promised social engineering in Delhi on the lines of Uttar Pradesh if her party came to power in the national capital.
