Liquor seized from party worker's premises
Rajgarh, MP, Nov 23 (UNI) A total of 1,680 bottles of country-made liquor worth Rs 50,000 have been seized from a jeep at the house of a political party worker at this district's Bhiapura village of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, police said today.
Superintendent of Police D K Arya said the jeep was standing inside the fence of the worker's house and seized the vehicle with about 350 litres liquor last night.
The bottles were being unloaded when the police raided the place.
The culprits, Ramnarayan Sharma and Chain Singh were arrested and send to jail under Excise Act, he added.
A ban has been imposed on the sale and purchase of liquor, spirit or similar material for 48 hours from 1700 hrs on November 25, in view of polling for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
The Election Commission has issued directives that any material, falling in the category of liquor, could not be sold, purchased and distributed from any bar, hotel, restaurant, shop or any other public or private place.
Violating the directive would be a punitive crime and the defaulter may have to face a six-month imprisonment or Rs 2,000 as fine or both.
