Kannur, Nov 23 (UNI) Defending Champion Kannur University retained the All India Inter-University Volleyball women's title with a comfortable win over Madras University, Chennai in the finals here today.
The hostess had no difficult to kill the challenge of Chennai lass, as they spiked out them in straight sets. Score 25-18, 25-10 and 25-17.
This was the fifth time, Kannur annexing the title in a row.
The visitors could not contain the attacks by Kannur team, as their captain Minimol Abraham, V Soumaya, P Remya did their job well, scoring points regularly for their team.
The Chennai girls defense was very poor, and the smashes by Minimol found enough space to land the ball in to the rivals court.
For losers, Kalaivani, Jayabharathi, Princy Varghese ,maheswari and Libro Jagadeshwari played well.
Minimol Abraham was adjudged as the best player, while Soumya V abd Aleena Zacharias (all Kannur) bagged the V bagged the best attacker, and setter awards respectively.
The other awards: Blocker-M Sajini(SRM) and Best Libero- Jagadeshwari (Madras). FIFA appeal committee member P P Lakshmanan gave away the prizes.
