Salgoacar defeats BEML 2-1
Bangalore, Nov 22 (UNI) Salgoacar, Goa thrashed the hopes of Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) of leading the Group 'A' when it defeated the hosts 2-1 in the 30th Federation Cup Preliminary Knock Out match played at Bangalore Football Stadium here today.
At lemon time both the teams were locked 1-1.
The hosts opened the account in the 14th minute when alert striker Prakash netted the ball as midfielder Jotin Singh missed a chance which came to him.
The Goan, unperturbed with conceded the lead, became more agressive and succeded in getting the equaliser when striker Bijen Singh taking advantage of a corner pass by Bongo Singh scored the equaliser in the 43rd minute.
Brazilian striker Iven Da'Selva, who had miffed a couple of times earlier, did no mistake in the 60th minute by converting pass given by Bijen Singh to enable Goa team to go one up.
The hosts has to blame themselves for defeat of their dream after registering an emphathatic 2-0 win in the inaugural match against Indian Bank, Chennai. Though went for agressive game initially, after opening the account, failed to keep up the tempo and lack of understanding among the players in the field costed them dearly.
Goans, after taking lead when in for defensive and succeded in not allowing the host team to score. However, the lead would have been increased but for chances missed by Brazalian midfielder L Eduardo and Biju Kumar in the both the session.
Referee Thambiraj of Tamil Nadu flashed yellow card thrice to BEML players for obstructing opponents including Captain Shivamani, Jotin Singh and Wilfred.
