Kottayam, Nov 22 (UNI) The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church today came down heavily on the state government for not taking action against the miscreants who destroyed the shrines of the Church on November 16.
At a news conference here Church secretary George Joseph alleged that the police were delaying arrests to save the miscreants with the knowledge of the CPI(M) leadership. Those behind the attacks meanwhile, had approached the court for anticipatory bail, he said.
The miscreants, allegedly belonging to an extremist organisation of the rival Jacobite faction, attacked three shrines (Kurisadi) of the Church at Oravakkal, Amayanoor and Methrancherry here.
They were allegedly DYFI and SFI activists and the party was trying to protect them by delaying the arrests, Dr Joseph charged.
