European Union team visited Fish harbour in Daxina Kannada dt

Mangalore, Nov 22 (UNI) A three-member European Union (EU) team had visited the fishing harbour area and expressed satisfaction over the adoption of hygeiene standard by fishermen and authorities in the district.

Mr Maheshwaran, Assistant Director, department of fisheries, said that the three-member EU team which had visited the harbour area in and around Daxina Kannada fisheries ports where major fishing based industries are located and expressed their satisfaction over adoption of high standard hygeine norms.

The team accompanied by the officials from Export Inspection Council, Export Inspection Agency and EMPEDA also visited the fisheries harbour and other nearby places where fish catches are handled before exporting to Europe and other countries.

The team expressed its satisfaction over the hygiene standard maintained at the harbour, he said.

He also said that the team also visited an Ice plant where it inspected quality of the ice manufactured, water used and ice storage facilities. He said that Mangalore alone exports more than 60 per cent of the total fish export from Karnataka. "If the team found any lacuna in maintaining highs standard hygeine it would have coasted us dearly" he said.
