Badminton player seeks sponsorship for Bahrain championship

Kozhikode, Nov 22 (UNI) He represented the country in many world events, but chances of Diju V participating in the Bahrain International Badminton Challenge seem to be remote in the absence of sponsorship.

Talking to newspersons here, Diju said he had no option but to pull out of the event from December one to six as he was finding it hardto meet the expenses involved in the trip.

Expressing his williness to accept sponsorship, including from corporate houses, he said ''it seems to be difficult for me to make it to the event unless there is a suitable sponsor'' to fund the trip.

Diju, who represented the country in the world events in Germany, Bulgaria, Holland and Denmark, said he himself met all the expenses involved in the trips so far.

Recent events participated by the talented player were Bitberger Open Mixed and Doubles Championship held in Germany from October one to six, 2008 and Bulgerian Open Mixed Doubles champpionship at Sophia from October eight to 12, 2000.

Some of the other events attended by the SAAF games gold medallist in team championship and mixed doubles at Colombo in 2006, were Asian Games at Doha in 2006, World Badminton Championship 2006, 2005, 2004, Thomas Cup in Tokyo.

A national mixed doubles champion from 2005 to 2008, Diju had also won a bronze medal in Commonwealth Games at Melbourne in 2006.
