Annual Chandigarh Carnival begins today
Chandigarh, Nov 22 (UNI) The two-day annual Chandigarh Carnival today began here at Leisure Valley with hosts of cultural activities displaying distinctive regional art forms.
The Carnival, inaugurated by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) SF Rodrigues, has many novelties this year with the participation of foreign countries including Japan, Germany and France exhibiting their art and culture.
Gen Rodrigues flagged off the colourful procession of beautifully structured floats accompanying the young artists and children attired in regional costumes, with the theme "Chandigarh a fine blend of the traditional and the modern".
Another special feature this year is an Air Force display. The handicrafts and other exhibits in the Carnival Village have been displayed in mud huts giving it a unique rustic look. The fair also has a seperate section for corporates and business houses.
Pyramid of flowers, water features, amusement park, hanging bridge and traffic park are the major attractions for the children visiting the Carnival.
Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, Chandigarh Shaitya Akademi, Chandgiarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, College of Architecture, College of Arts, Le Corbusier Centre, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society and various departments of Chandigarh Administration including Information Technology, Chandigarh Housing Board, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh Tourism, Chandigarh Police, Haryana Tourism have put up their stalls.
Food court comprising of 'CITCO da Vehra' and other food stalls have been put up by various local catering institutes for providing quality food to the visitors.
