UHBVN disconnects power supply of 1,43,952 consumers

Chandigarh, Nov 21 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has temporarily or permanently disconnected 1,43,952 connections of the non payers upto November 15 during the current fiscal.

These consumers had to pay Rs 89.63 crore out of which a sum of Rs 52.04 crore have been recovered. The Nigam has targeted to disconnect supply of 4,23,000 non payers during the current fiscal.

A spokesman said here today that the Nigam had snapped electricity supply of 33,101 non payers in operation circle Ambala, 27,697 in Yamuna Nagar, 24,211 in Jind, 17,297 in Kurukshetra, 13,182 in Panipat, 9384 in Karnal, 6,733 in Jhajjar, 5,025 in Sonipat, 4,857 in Kaithal and 2,465 in Rohtak.

The Nigam has detected 5609 cases of theft during this period. A penalty of Rs 8.87 crore was imposed on the erring consumers out of which Rs 3.87 crore had been recovered.

He said that 1,569 cases of theft of electricity had been detected in district Jind, 1,122 in Karnal, 699 in Kurukshetra, 540 in Sonipat, 434 in Yamuna Nagar, 433 in Jhajjar, 283 in Panipat, 251 in Rohtak, 199 in Ambala and Panchkula and 87 in district Kaithal.

The Nigam has checked 68,628 consumer meters so far against the annual target of checking of 1.80 lakh consumer meters, he added.
