NEHU introduces CBCS to enhance higher education
Shillong, Nov 21 (UNI) The North Eastern Hill University(NEHU) in Meghalaya has introduced Choice Based Credit System(CBCS) connecting other universities in the country to allow transfer of a student from one university to another, NEHU official said today.
The credit system, allows postgraduate students to undertake as many courses as they can manage, provided they fulfil the prerequisites of a course, subject to a maximum of 30 credits in any semester.
''This system, enhances the mobility of the students without having to make it mandatory for them to complete the course's semesters from a single university,'' NEHU Vice-Chancellor Pramod Tandon told mediapersons here.
He said a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on CBCS has already been linked with Jawaharlal Nehru University and Hyderabad University and also Universities from Germany and Netherlands.
''This system, would enhance sharing of facilities and give an opportunity to students to study from among a larger range of teaching programmes available in the country,'' Prof Tandon said.
Approving the introduction of CBCS in NEHU, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has asked all universities to work out their own formula on the system.
