National Rowing champ: 2 new records on day 3

Lucknow, Nov 21 (UNI) Maharashtra boys and Andhra Pradesh girls today created new records on the third day of the 29th Junior National Rowing championship being held here on the waters of the river Gomti here.

Maharashtra boys claimed their first gold of the championship in the Coxless-2 event when duo of Munesh Kumar and Abhishek Singh broke the previous record of Orissa. The pair took only 3 minutes 11.97 second, while the previous record was 3 minutes 46.46 sconds.

Last year's winners Orissa slipped to third place. Punjab boys claimed the silver of the event. Punjab's pair of Gaurav Pundir/Rakesh bagged the silver clocking the same distance in 3 minutes 16.11 seconds.

The Orissa girls' quartet of D Sethi, Pratima Puhana, P Min and Mitali Shekhar lifted the gold of Coxless-4 event, rowing the distance of 1,000 meters in record time of 3 minutes 21.99 second leaving behind former winners Kerala to the second place, Kerala girls took 3 minutes 28.78 seconds, while Manipur girls with 3 minutes 53.35 seconds satisfied with bronze medal.
