International Group on plant health clinics formed
New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) In an effort to popularise the concept of plant health clinics and bring about an improvement in their functioning, an International Working Group on plant health clinics has been constituted under the chairmanship of renowned pathologist Dr M P Srivastav.
Though plant health clinics play a vital role in diagnosis and control of plant diseases and pests, such clinics are not as common and popular as human and vetenary clinics.
Apart from Dr Srivastav, former Head, Department of Plant Pathology, Haryana Agriculture University, the group comprises of Manager Global Plant Clinic CABI, UK, Dr Eric Boa as its co-chairman, Dr Naresh Mehta and Dr U S Singh from India, besides scientists from Denmark, Canada and the USA.
The group will meet once or twice to monitor establishment and working of such clinics in different countries or states and will provide solutions for their efficient working.
The group has been formed on the recommendation of Plant Health Clinic session organised during Ninth International Congress of Plant Pathology, held at Turin, Italy in August.
