High court asks civic body to report to court
Kolkata, Nov 21 (UNI) Calcutta High Court today asked the civic authorities to file a report within two weeks on the growing incidence of malaria, which has claimed at least 36 lives across the state.
A two-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, issued the ruling on a Public Interest Litigation, filed by lawyer Pradip Roy.
The suit will further open after two weeks when the civic body will submit the report to the Bench.
Several hundreds of people across the city were under the grip of this vector-borne disease, Mr Roy said and blamed the civic body for its unabated spread.
'' Construction sites, open drains and garbage vats have been the breeding ground of mosquitios, '' he said adding, '' The civic body knows it, but surprisingly the situation has failed to awake them.
Mr Roy prayed for court intervention to check the spread of the disease spreading fast due to lack of proper steps by the authorities.
