Tiruchirapalli, Nov 20 (UNI)The Tamil Nadu Agriculture department would recruit 1,707 assistant agriculture officers through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), according to State Agriculture Commissioner S Kosalaraman.
Talking to newspersons here yesterday, Mr Kosalaraman said steps were taken to ensure adequate supply of fertiliser for the samba season and there will be no shortage now.
The Commissioner said while the State Government's requirement of urea during November was 1.36 lakh tonnes, 1.13 lakh tonnes had been supplied, and 40,000 tonnes was available.
He said agri-clinics would be established in all blocks in the next financial year.
He said the State was allotted Rs 185 crore during 2007-08 under the NADP and various schemes, including agriculture mechanisation, precision farming and micro-irrigation.
Mr Kosalaraman said samba paddy was raised on 3.79 lakh hectares in the Cauvery Delta region, adding, efforts were on to achieve the current year's food grain yield target of 108 lakh tonnes.
