Kochi, Nov 20 (UNI) At least 97 passengers and crew of a Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo had a providential escape when the aircraft made an emergency landing at the Nedumbassery International Airport near here this morning following a malfunction in its nose wheel.
The pilot of the UL 165 flight alerted the ATC at the airport about the problem, following which the airport authorities made all arrangements for a full emergency landing.
Fire and rescue personnel, ambulance service, medical staff, police and CISF personnel were present when the aircraft made a safe landing at 0845 hrs. Airport Director ACK Nair supervised the arrangements.
The aircraft was stationed at the runway for about 30 minutes before being hauled to an isolation bay.
Some flights were delayed as the runway was not fully operational for 30 minutes.
Alternative arrangements were made by the Sri Lankan Airlines to fly the Colombo-bound passengers from Nedumbassery by another aircraft this afternoon.
