Madikeri, Nov 20 (UNI) The mortal remains of a constable, Guruprasad, who was killed by Naxalites in an encounter with police, were laid to rest with full State honours at his residence here last night.
Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker K G Bopaiah placed a wreath on behalf of the state government.
Guruprasad was killed while fighting against naxalites at Mattina Kadave near Horanadu.
KSRP DIG Kempaiah from KSRP, Deputy Commissioner Baladevakrishna, Head quarters assistant Chikkathammaiah and Superintendent of police Suresh were among those who paid last respects to the slain hero.
Talking to newspersons, DIG Kempaiah said the department would not spare any chance to silence naxals. He assured that Rs five lakhs solatiom announced by the state government to the family of Guruprasad would be paid at the earliest.
Guruprasad had also been part of the police team that hunted down forest brigand Veerappan a few years ago.
