Police custody for ULFA leader
Guwahati, Nov 20 (UNI) Self-styled sergeant major of ULFA's ''B Company'' Ram Singh was today remanded to four-day police custody. Singh alias Mintu Borgohain, nabbed by security forces yesterday, was produced before Sivsagar CJM court, which remanded him to police custody.
Singh, second-in-command of the ''B Company'', has direct links with the top leaders of the outfit, Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Shyamal Prasad Saikia said.
The arrested militant told reporters that the ''B (Bravo) Company'' had extended moral support to the ''ceasefire group'' - ''A and C Companies of ULFA's 28th battalion'' - right from the beginning, but had opted out at the last moment since the leadership was against the unilateral truce.
After the ceasefire was declared by the A (Alpha) and C (Charlie) companies, our leadership dismantled the 28 battalion. Now only the ''Bravo Company'' cadres of this battalion were operating with its headquarters in Myanmar and an advanced headquarters at Mon in Nagaland, Singh said.
