Nine ultras arrested, cash, arms recovered

Ranchi, Nov 20 (UNI) In a major breakthrough police arrested nine Maoist ultras, including a 'zonal commander' and two 'area commanders', and recovered arms and cash from them in Gumla district today.

Superintendent of Police Baljeet Singh told UNI that the rebels were arrested during a joint operation conducted by Sisai and Bharno police teams of the district.

''Seven firearms, including two carbines, were recovered from them,'' Mr Singh said.

Besides, Rs 6 lakhs in cash and naxal literature were also seized, he added.

Yesterday, 16 ultras of the Sashastra People's Morcha (SPM), a breakaway faction of the proscribed CPI(Maoist), were arrested by the security forces from an area located between Bhuragadha and Karga area under Chouparan police station in Hazaribagh district.

About 15 firearms, including an SLR, two carbines, six 3.5 rifles, a double barrel gun and about 320 live cartridges were recovered from them.
