Maruti eyes export of 2 lac cars, to roll out millionth car

Chennai, Nov 20 (UNI) Aiming to roll out its one millionth car in an year's time, Car major Maruti Suzuki India Limited is eyeing export of two lakh cars by 2010-11, top company officials said today.

Talking to reporters after launching its World Strategic Model A-star, primarily targetted at European markets, Maruti Suzuki Director, Marketing and Sales, Shuji Oishi and Commercial Business Head (South) Manohar Bhat said the company had exported 53,000 cars, across all models, to over 40 countries last year.

''We are targetting two lakh car exports by 2010-11'', they said.

He said the company has the capacity to produce 1.5 lakh cars per annum of which one lakh would be for exports and the balance 50,000 for domestic consumption.

The A-star would be made in over 200 variants and exported to around 150 countries across Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Asia, Australia and Africa.

''The A-star will contribute half of Maruti suzuki's overall export target of 2,00,000 units by 2010-11. The export of A-star for Europe will commence early next year,'' Mr Oishi said.

''We will be rolling out the one millionth car in a year's time and we have started working towards that from October onwards'', Mr Bhat said.
