Mumbai, Nov 20 (UNI) India has a vital role to play in the wire and cable sector, projected to have tremendous potential in the long term, Wire&Cable India Chairman Deepak Chhabria said.
Speaking at the conference held at the second International Exhibition ''Wire &Cable India 2008'', organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Mr Chhabria, who is also Managing Director of Finolex Cables Limited said, ''The growth of this sector is only predictable, as the investments in real estate, infrastructure, power, telecom and other sectors would grow.'' Mr Chhabria, in his presentation, gave an overview of the key segments in the wire and cable sector, with patterns of growth in house wiring, power and telecom segments.
He said that house wiring segment should have a good demand with the growth in the real estate sector from 16.3 per cent in 2004-05 to 17.5 per cent in 2005-06.
He said the government has given priority to investment in housing sector in its five year plans, and hence, cable&wiring for house wiring will be on an upswing.
With the demand of mobile phones growing tremendously, it will increase demand for fiber cable in the long term'', he added.
