Jammu, Nov 20 (UNI) The District Election Officer (DEO), Kathua, issued showcause notices to the candidates of two political parties in a bid to curb the violation of Model Code of Conduct, being implemented with the ongoing seven-phased Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir.

''The DEO issued notices to the candidates of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) yesterday under the provisions of J&K Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act and Section 134-A of J&K Representation of People's Act,'' sources told UNI.

Ravinder Pathania (JKNPP) and Som Raj Majotra (BSP), were warned and have been asked to ensure corrective measures, failing which the matter shall be brought to the notice of the Election Commission, which may follow the disqualification of their candidatures.

''The candidates were reportedly held responsible of holding public meetings, rallies and using loudspeakers without the permission from the concerned Returning Officers,'' they added.

The officials however, have been stressed by the authorities to ensure strict implementation of Model Code of Conduct and report any violation to the Returning Officers.
