Chandigarh, Nov 20 (UNI) Haryana Government has implemented a new scheme to provide computer training for the Scheduled Castes (SC) students to enable them to get employment in the information technology sector.
Budget provision of Rs 18.91 crore has been made for the scheme during the year 2008-09, a spokesman of the education department said adding that the state government was also providing bicycles to the SC girl students of TDC-I.
During the year 2007-08, 4248 bicycles were provided to SC girl students. During the year 2008-09, Rs. 60 Lakh had been earmarked for this purpose.
A scheme of Remedial Coaching in the subject of science, Maths and English for students belonging to weaker sections of society like SC/BC including students belonging to educationally backward minorities had also been introduced in the state, said the spokesman.
Under the scheme, special coaching for three months in an academic year in each subject was provided to the students, for which Rs 800 per subject per month per class were given to the lecturers as incentive.
During the year 2007-08, Rs 9.40 lakh were given to 55 government colleges and a budget provision Rs 10 lakh had been made for this purpose during the year 2008-09.
He said that cash incentives were also being given to SC/ST students to encourage them to take part in sports activities. Rs 60 per head per day for 100 days in a year and sports kit per student per annum costing upto Rs. 2000 were given to 125 boys and 125 girl students of SCs/STs who participated as team members in any of the recognised disciplines at inter college and above levels.
The spokesman said that placement cells had been constituted in all the Government Colleges under the supervision of the principal and seniormost lecturer of the college to help the students in getting employment after completion of their study.
