Orissa yet to seek flood damage assistance - Pawar
Bhubaneswar, Nov 19 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the Orissa government had not yet submitted its proposal seeking assistance from the Union government towards the damages caused by the recent floods.
Mr Pawar, who was here as the leader of the Cabinet Committee on Kandhamal to assess the situation in the riot-hit district, told newspersons here that the Central government had given Rs 300 crore as interim relief and denied reports that the Union government was delaying the Central assistance for the flood damage in the state.
The Union Minister said Central assistance would be given after the state government submitted its proposal and it was considered by the Central government.
He said during a discussion here the Chief Minister had told him that he submitted the proposal today.
Soon after the Union Minister's statement, the state government submitted a memorandum to the Union government, seeking an assistance of Rs 2687.43 crore for the damage caused due to floods which included Rs 2222.65 crore for the repair of roads, power connectivity, educational institutions and Rs 182 crore for the evacuation of people.
