Ahmedabad, Nov 19 (UNI) Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Limited (MPSEZ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a dedicated Automobile Terminal with Japan-based Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Norway-based Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines (WWL).

The MoU was signed in Mumbai in presence of WWL Tokyo Head of Terminals and Inland Services Kim Buoy, NYK Japan Deputy General Manager Koji Shinozaki, and MPSEZ chief executive officer (Operations) Capt Sandeep Mehta.

Mundra Port is set to become a hub for handling of automobiles because of its proximity to the major auto manufacturers in the North and West India. Maruti Suzuki and Nissan will start exporting their cars to Europe from Mundra Port in January 2009. They will be using the port facility, which will be able to handle 2,00,000 cars per annum before the new dedicated auto terminal facility is ready, a release said.
