Srinagar, Nov 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) today produced a challan against an Education Department official in a corruption case in a local court here.

A spokesman of the VO said the challan was produced in the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir, against Farooq Ahmad Shah, Senior Assistant in the office of Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Shangus, who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 250.

Giving details about the case, he said, Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, an Education Volunteer (EV) lodged a written report with the VO, alleging that the accused was demanding illegal gratification for release of a cheque in his favour, regarding provision of mid-day meals to school children.

A trap was laid and the accused was arrested red-handed, accepting a bribe of Rs 250 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.

The hand and pocket wash of the accused was conducted which tested positive.

After an accord of sanction for prosecution by the government, the challan was produced in the court of law today along with the accused.
