Jaya leads Kollywood's homage to iconic villain Nambiar

Chennai, Nov 19 (UNI) The Tamil film world, led by yesteryear actor and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and Superstar Rajnikanth today paid rich tributes to one of the most enduring villains of Tamil cinema M N Nambiar who died here today.

As the news of the death one of the most loved actors in Kollywood broke, a steady stream of mourners rushed to his Gopalapuram residence and paid their last respects, filing past the body of the 89-year-old icon, who had carved a niche for himself with his powerful expression of dialogues.

His career spanned more than seven decades during which he had acted in over 1100 films, spread over six languages.

The funeral would take place tomorrow.

Actor Rajnikanth and producer Muktha V Srinivasan were among the early mourners to pay homage to Nambiar at his residence.

In the evening, Ms Jayalalithaa, who had acted with Nambiar in several box office hits like ''Arasa Kattalai'', ''Aayirathil Oruvan'', ''Pudhiya Bhoomi'', ''Raman Thediya Seethai'' and ''Ragasiya Police 115'', placed a wreath on the body and paid her last respects.

In her condolence message, Ms Jayalalithaa said she had acted with him in sevaral films. He was a very jovial person. Such was his quality that the actors working with him would not feel the workload, she said.

His death was a loss not only to the film world but also to the spiritual world as Mr Nambiar used to undertake regular pilgirmage to Sabarimala for 65 years.

''The void caused by his death cannot be fulfilled. The country has lost a great man and an era has come to an end'', she added.

Several actors, both past and present, who had acted alongside Nambiar, also paid a tearful homage to him. Among those who paid their last respects included comedienne Manorama, yesteryear heroine K R Vijaya, Karan, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran.

All those who paid their respects described Mr Nambiar as a humane person and a strict vegetarian. They described his death as ''an irrepairable loss'' to the Tamil film world.
