Day 1: Holder's Orissa dominate in national Rowing champ

Lucknow, Nov 19 (UNI) On the inaugural day of the 29th National Junior Rowing championship for boys and girls here today, defending champions Orissa dominated the proceedings on the waters of the river Gomti.

On the first day, in all 36 heats were held, in which rowers from Orissa, runners up of the last edition Kerala and Maharashtra performed upto their reputation, while due to lack of experience Uttar Pradesh boys and girls teams confined to mere hosts state only. The teams from Orissa, Kerala and Maharashtra would dominate the proceedings in the remaining three days too.

Earlier, UP Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh inaugurated the meet.

In his address, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Shailja Kant Mishra said with the organising of such an event, the cleaniness drive of river Gomti would be encouraged, besides giving a boost to 'Rowing' in the state.
