Cartier to sculpt exclusive Winners' Trophy for Champions League

By Staff

Mumbai, Nov 19 (UNI) The Champions League 20-20 have commissioned world renowned French jeweller and luxury brand - Cartier, to create the trophy for the Winners of the League to be played in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai from December 3 to 10 this year.

The exquisitely hand-sculpted trophy designed exclusively by Cartier for the Champions League 20-20 will measure 41 cm in height, with a diameter of 31 cm and weigh just over 7 kilos. The trophy will be unveiled in December just prior to the inaugural match of the Champions League 2020, a release issued here today stated.

Commenting on the choice of Cartier for making the Trophy, Lalit Modi, Chairman of the Champions League 2020, said, ''Cartier has created some truly exquisite and stunning works of art be it in jewellery design, watches and accessories, that have adorned Hollywood beauties and Royalty alike. It was then an obvious choice for us to commission Cartier for creating a truly distinct and exquisite work of art, one befitting the stature of crowning the Champion of Champions in domestic club cricket.'' Bernard Fornas, President&CEO Cartier International, said, ''C for Cartier, C for Cricket are two simple seven-letter words that encapsulate passion and a union between elegance and style. These adjectives also in a nutshell capture the very essence of the trophy's design, which articulates a balanced equation of precious materials resulting in a truly unique and remarkable design.'' Eight teams, consisting of the reigning winners and runners-up from the domestic Twenty20 competitions in India, Australia and South Africa, plus the reigning Twenty20 champion Sialkot from Pakistan, and the reigning Twenty20 Cup champion from England, Middlesex, have been invited to contest the 2008 Champions League 2020. The inaugural edition of the Champions League 20-20 will offer teams US million as prize money, making this the biggest prize in world cricket for the game, the release added.
