Jaipur, Nov 19 (UNI) Amid the cut-throat competition to secure votes of the electorate, an independent candidate for the Rajasthan assembly elections stands out as he does not seek votes for himself during the campaign.

Satyapal Bishnoi, independent candidate from Sriganganagar assembly constituency, says he is not concerned with votes but he wants to raise some important issues in the run-up to the elections.

Bishnoi, who is a member of Shabri National Movement, is raising the issues of untouchability and woman empowerment in a big way during the campaign. He also wants the release of 54 Indian prisoners currently languishing in Pakistani jails.

Regarding the issue of untouchablity, he says Dalits are still being discriminated against in society and not allowed to participate in traditional customs of the so-called higher castes.

The law and authorities, he says, have so far failed to curb the practice of untouchability. The political leaders should come to the fore to make concerted efforts in this regard.

Bishnoi also points out that the high death rate of women during delivery in India and incidents of female foeticide continue due to discrimination against the fairer sex.

Women, he says, should be given equal status in employment, education and medicare.
