Kolkata, Nov 19 (UNI) General Manager of BSNL, Kharagpur division, was today caught red-handed by the CBI, Kolkata, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a senior manager of a private security agency.
A government source quoting the CBI officials in the city said the agency had been providing security personnel to the BSNL for manning various units of the country's major state-owned telephone company.
It was alleged that a bill for September'08 for Rs eight lakh (approximately) had been pending with the BSNL and the General Manager had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 50,000 for clearing the same.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the manager of the private company complained the CBI following which a trap was laid to arrest the ''corrupt'' official.
The General Manager was immediately placed under arrest and further investigation of the case was on.
However, the name of the General Manager was withheld for certain reasons, sources informed.
The CBI had undertaken an exercise towards creating mass awareness among the people by sending bulk SMS through various telecom service providers and had been successful in laying four successful traps in a short period of about one month.
