New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) Pakistan legend Wasim Akram today denied having supported the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), stating that his remarks have been taken out of context.

Akram was yesterday quoted by the media as saying that the International Cricket Council (ICC) would have to grant recognition to the ICL in the near future given the increasing popularity of the rebel T20 tournament and the quality of cricket on display.

However, the former fast bowlng great appears to have bowed to pressure from official quarters and has issued a denial.

''I have been reported in the press as having commented that the Indian Cricket League would in the next few years be recognised by the games governing body. My comments have been taken out of context,'' Akram said in a statement.

''I accept that cricket games and tournaments should be officially sanctioned by the game's Governing Bodies and the respective Boards of Control. My comments were taken out of context and I apologise if those comments caused any harm or distress,'' the message added.
