Puducherry, Nov 19 (UNI) Karaikal district DMK convener and Leader of the Opposition in the territorial Assembly A M H Nazeem today alleged that the action taken by the administration to rescue Karaikal fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan navy was not sufficient.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Nazeem, said when he contacted Chief Minister V Vaiyhilingam, he merely said that a fax was sent to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Following this, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister K P P Samy was contacted and requested to consider the case of Karaikal fishermen also while initiating action for the rescue of Tamil Nadu fishermen, Mr Nazeem said adding that Mr Samy had assured to inform Tamil Nadu Chief Minsiter M Karunanidhi.
He said he had contacted Puducherry Lt Governor Govind Singh Gurjar, who is camping in New Delhi, and sought action from his side.
According to Mr Nazeem, Mr Gurjar had obtained all details of the fishermen arrested and assured to take up the matter with the External Affairs Minister and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil.
Pointing out the continued atrocities by the Lankan Navy on Indian fishermen, Mr Nazeem expressed hope that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister would find a way out to put an end to this.
