Priest murder case accused acquitted on benefit of doubt

Panaji, Nov 18 (UNI) A local court acquitted two persons, who were accused of murdering a parish priest in 2006, on benefit of doubt, following lack of evidence.

The Additional District Session court judge acquitted Amit Shukla (21) and Manish Dhubey (20), both residents of Uttar Pradesh yesterday.

The duo was arrested by Maina-Curtorim police from Nagpur on March 21, 2006, in connection with the murder of Fr Eusebio Ferrao, Parish priest of St Francis Xavier Parish, Macazana. He was found murdered in the early hours of March 18, 2006 at the church premises by parishoners.

The accused had allegedly stabbed the 61-year-old priest 27 times before strangulating and smothering him.
