Police uses mild force to control rush of ticket buyers

By Staff

Kanpur, Nov 18 (UNI) Police today resorted to mild force on cricket fans to avoid a stampede like situation during the purchase of tickets for the third one dayer cricket match scheduled to be played between India and England at Green Park stadium here on November 20.

The cricket admirers had assembled in queues at various branches of State Bank of India (SBI), authorised for the sale of tickets here, in view to purchase tickets hours before opening of the windows.

However, the police resorted to cane charge on people, who were seeking tickets at Civil Lines branch of the SBI, after they pushed each other in panic.

Minor scuffles between police and ticket buyers were reported at all the eight branches of the SBI.

Senior police and district officials were, meanwhile, keeping a tight vigil over the situation.

The sale of tickets for the third one dayer was scheduled for today and tomorrow.

As per the schedule, the teams would arrive in the city by this afternoon and would go to net in two sessions tomorrow.

The health department had made elaborate arrangements at the Green Park stadium and Hotel Landmark, besides arrangement of over 12 ambulances and doctors of local government hospitals from nearby districts have also been done.
