National junior rowing championship from tomorrow

Lucknow, Nov 18 (UNI) The 29th edition of the National Junior Rowing championship would begin here from tomorrow.

The championship, to be organised by Uttar Pradesh Rowing Association (UPRA), would be held on a streach of one kilometer area from Nishatganj bridge to Hanuman Setu.

The organising secretary of the championship H C Sharma today said here eight Gold medals, besides equal number of silver and bronze medals would be at stake, for which 184 boys and girls participants from different states and 12 teams would show their sailing skills.

He said it would be the second time that the state capital was organising such a great event and for the purpose UPRA had managed some fibre glass boats.

Mr Sharma informed that UP's contingent would be the biggest comprising 14 boys and girls each. Overall 79 boys and 81 girls would participate during the four day event.

In the last year's championship, which was held at Jagatpur (Orissa), the hosts team had won the top place by accumulating 52 points with 4 gold and 2 silver medals leaving behind Kerala and Andhra Pradesh on the second and third places respectively.

UP Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh would inaugurate the meet tomorrow, while Uttar Pradesh Chief secretary Atul Kumar would be the chief guest of closing ceremony on November 22.
