LS to campaign against govt if it fails to close belt shops
Hyderabad, Nov 18 (UNI) Lok Satta(LS) party President Jayaprakash Narayan will launch a campaign from Kuppam, former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu's constituency to Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's constituency in December, if the Government does not fulfill its promise of closing down unauthorised belt shops before the month-end.
''While Mr Naidu initiated belt shops, Dr Reddy nurtured and nourished them and most of those, who operate these shops belong to the ruling Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP),'' party spokesmen P Ravi Maruth and Working Committee Member G Malyadri, said in a press release here today.
They alleged that although it is more than a fortnight since the Chief Minister set a deadline for the closure of belt shops, they continued to function unhindered.
The Government, which had turned liquor into a source of revenue, is not serious and sincere about closure of belt shops. On the contrary, it is using the money for extending sops to people and claiming it is as a welfare-oriented Government, the release added.
