Chandigarh, Nov 18 (UNI) Haryana athletes performed well by winning 11 gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals in the 24th National Junior Athletic Championship held in Mysore (Karnataka) from November 12-16, according to Hanuman Singh Bhadu, Secretary, Haryana State Athletic Association.
Besideds reaping a rich harvest, Sukhdev Singh was declared the best athlete in the boys age group of 16 years and Manish completed a sprint double by winning 100 and 200 metres in the age group of 18 years.
Sirsa-based Anju Rathi established a new meet record in javelin throw with a throw of 39.36 metres (old record 39.11 metres set by Bincy Devasia or Kerala in 2003) in the age group of 18 years.
Sukhdev Singh of Bhiwani also wrote his name in the record book with an explosive release of the chained iron ball to a distance of 66.51 metres against the previous meet record of 65.35 metres standing in the name of Harminder Singh of Uttar Pradesh since 2006.
Congratulaing the medal winners, Mr Bhadu informed that the Haryana athletes got fourth position in overall medal tally. HSAA president Nafe Singh Rathi also praised the Haryana athletes who returned from Mysore today.
