Kolkata, Nov 18 (UNI) Bengal thrashed services by an innings and 226 run on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Plate-B match at Eden Gardens here today.
Bengal declared their first innings' overnight score of 442/6 with 335 runs lead to take advantage of morning dew of Eden's flat pitch that paid dividend with 1+5(6) bonus points.
The hosts bowled Services out for 109 in 52.3 overs in the second innings before tea to wrap up the game more than a day to spare.
At one stage the Armymen was tottering at 57/6 with fine bowling from Ranadeb Bose and Ashok Dinda, who finished on 3/34 and 4/28 respectively.
The other successful bowler was spinner Ritam Kundu, who returned with a figure of 2/0 in three overs. Medium pacer Sourav Sarkar, who broke the spine of Armymen in the first innings with 5/21, returned empty handed in the second innings in his 11 overs. Armymen's innings would have been bundled out early, had not been there three missed catches, including two from L R Shukla.
Only sixth down Devendra Israni defied Bengal's pacemen for sometime, scoring 40 with the help of six boundaries in 122 balls before being trapped (lbw) off Ritam Kundu.
Earlier, Bengal's opener 20-year-old Rohan Banerjee hit 176 on his Ranji debut and captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla blasted 101 in 129 balls, hitting twelve to the fence and two over boundaries.
Bengal's campaign in Ranji against Madhya Pradesh earned them only one point after conceding first innings lead.
Their next match is against Tripura from November 29 at Eden.
