Margao, Nov 18 (UNI) A second half injury minute goal by Michael Toyo guided Air India to hold spirited Churchill Brothers to a 1-1 draw, compelling them to share points in the ninth round of the ONGC I League Football championship match here at Nehru stadium, Fatorda today.
Felix Chimao scored for Churchill Brothers in the 38th minute while Michael Toyo equalised for Air India in the injury time.
With this drawn match, Air India maintained its position at the second spot with 16 points from nine outings, with four wins, four draws and a defeat. Churchill increased their points tally to 14 points from three wins,five draws and a loss.
Churchill could have won outright by four goals, had not Air India goalkeeper Anup Debnath, who was later aduduged the man of the match for his performance, thwarted Churchill moves.
Churchill got off to an aggressive start with strikers and midfielders constantly threatening the Air India goal. They came with a good move as early as 15th minute of the first half, initiated by Odafe Okolie, whose long ranger shot was smartly saved by rival goalkeeper Debnath, diving to his right.
Churchill were almost in the lead in 31st minute of the first half, had not rival defender Chikuwama Odofia brought off a goal-line save when goalkeeper was out of his position. It was a fine combined move when Felix gave a pass to Odafe okolie who passed it to Chandam Singh, who only had to tap the ball into the open goal bu it was cleared by Air India defender Odofia on goal line.
Churchill shot into the lead in the 38th minute of the first half through Felix Chimao off a well measured pass received from Odafe and at half time Churhill were leading by 1-0.
Air India managed to restore the parity in injury minute of the second half through Michael Toyo, when Samson Singh from the right flank gave a cross pass to Emanuel who in quick sucession switched over the ball to better placed Michael who tapped the ball into the net to make the score 1-1 .
